Felony begins shooting in Sydney

Cameras have begun rolling on Felony, the new film written by Joel Edgerton and directed by Matthew Saville, director of Noise and Cloudstreet.

Filming began yesterday in Sydney with key cast; Edgerton, Tom Wilkinson, Melissa George and Jai Courtney and will continue until late December.

The film is produced by Goalpost Pictures’ Rosemary Blight, Edgerton for Blue-Tongue Films and Michael Benaroya for Benaroya Pictures.

The story follows three detectives who are faced with a tense struggle following a tragic accident that sees one detective put a child in hospital. One cop is guilty, one will try to cover it up while the third will attempt to expose it.

As well as Edgerton’s success as an actor, he previously co-wrote The Square, directed by brother Nash Edgerton, among other shorts.

Blight said: “With director Matt Saville and my producer partners Joel and Michael, we’ve assembled a stunning international cast and a highly experienced and creative Australian crew to bring Joel’s incredible script to the screen. It’s hugely exciting to have Tom Wilkinson, Melissa George and Jai Courtney join Joel with us here in Sydney for the shoot.”

Goalpost’s Ben Grant is executive producing along with Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel from Solution Entertainment Group who are also representing the film internationally.

Felony is distributed locally by Roadshow Films and CAA is handling US rights.

Roadshow Films managing director Joel Pearlman said: “Joel Edgerton’s outstanding script has attracted an amazing group of people to create this film. We are delighted to be handling the distribution of this project and are looking forward to bringing it to cinema audiences in 2013.”

The film has has received funding from Screen Australia.
