FetchTV creates remote control app

FetchTV has created an iPhone and iPad app that operates as a remote control for the IPTV service.

The announcement:

FetchTV remote app makes entertainment easier – Smartphones and tablets replace remote control

Sydney – 5 December, 2011: FetchTV today launched free mobile applications for the iphone and ipad, available through iTunes. The apps turn a smart device into a fully interactive remote control with rich content browsing capability, giving people the freedom to control and interact with their FetchTV service wherever they are.

Available on iOS (iPhone – 3G and above, iPad and iPod Touch) from today and on Android from Q1 2012, the apps have been developed by FetchTV and its ISP partners to further enhance the user experience.

The FetchTV apps pair with the set top box, and allow users to remotely browse program listings, set and manage recordings, browse movies, watch trailers, make purchases and initiate downloads.  The apps also serve as an in-house remote and keyboard, well beyond the capability of the majority of TV apps in the market.

Scott Lorson, CEO FetchTV said: “fetchtv is a new breed of entertainment experience designed to cater to the evolving needs of Australian consumers.  One of the key trends in recent years has been the proliferation of smart phones and tablets. Whilst the TV continues to be the dominant viewing screen for entertainment, we see the smart phones and tablets as the ideal companion devices to enable an integrated and interactive three screen experience across the TV, tablet and smart phone.

“The fetchtv app offer significantly greater functionality than the standard TV applications available in the market, and will form a key part of the fetchtv enhanced user experience.”

The FetchTV app allows people to:

  • Preview movies: Watch trailers and browse the on-demand movies available on fetchtv – and then rent them to watch on the fetchtv set top box when you get home;
  • Record TV: Browse the local TV guide to find out what’s on, schedule recordings from the TV Guide and manage them in My Stuff (fetchtv’s file management system);
  • Replace the remote control: Use the mobile device like a remote control while at home; and
  • Interact with the service and social media:  Added functionality to share movies or programs on Facebook or Twitter, or by email or text message.

“Anyone can download the FetchTV remote app – it’s a great way for potential customers to see what content they can get through the fetchtv service,” Lorson continued.

You can download the app from iTunes:

An Optus MeTV with fetch app is also available providing Optus customers with access to the content available through the Optus service.

Customers can currently subscribe to fetchtv through iiNet, Internode, Westnet, Netspace, Optus and Adam Internet.
