First Mentor Matchmaking sees 18 charities harness expertise of adland representatives
Representatives from 18 charities came face to face with executives from across the communications industry yesterday at the first Mentor Matchmaking session.
Organised on behalf of industry charity UnLtd and supported by Mumbrella, the event brought charities together with representatives from brands, agencies and media owners in a series of speed-date style sessions to match marketing skills with their needs.
UnLtd general manager Carol Morris said: “From the moment we had to shut down the event site in the first hour due to oversubscription, to the final dates last night – this Matchmaking event has been an extraordinary demonstration of just how much our industry wants to use our skills and expertise to give back.
“The most important thing for us in establishing a mentor relationship is – there needs to be a connection. That initial chemistry is vital. The speed-dating forum was brilliant for that.”
UnLtd-supported charities present included Youth Off The Streets, The Bully Project, Heart Kids and the Reach Foundation, while industry representatives came from agencies including GroupM, Bohemia, M&C Saatchi and from media owners including APN Outdoor and Mi9. The event was held at the offices of media agency UM.
“The energy and enthusiasm in the room was truly fantastic. And what happens next in terms of the individual mentors we match with our charities to make a difference, will be even more exciting,” added Morris.
“We want our NFP organisations to continue to do what they do best – changing young lives and giving them hope. And we want to help these charities by doing what the advertising and marketing industry does best – building and amplifying brands.
“Now that the ‘speed dating’ is over, and we know where the chemistry between our mentors and charities lies – we will go about facilitating some incredible and meaningful mentor relationships.”
The event is expected to return on a larger scale in the future.
