Radio announcer Keith Conlon will retire from his top rating Breakfast show on Adelaide station Fiveaa at the end of the year.

The South Australian presenter who has hosted the show for 13 years announced his last show would be on November 29 this morning.

In a statement from DMG Radio, Conlon said he wanted to give up the 4am starts to spend more time with his family and embrace opportunities to promote South Australia.

Conlon’s media career spans 50 years and he is a prominent advocate of South Australia.

Peter Maynard, general manager of DMG Radio Adelaide said: “Keith has made a major contribution to the media landscape and talk back radio over the past 50 years. His passion and commitment to South Australia is unparalleled. I would like to congratulate him on a fantastic career and wish him well with the next exciting stage.”

Conlon said he would miss the rush of presenting live radio.

“I love the adrenaline rush of producing a breakfast show; you’re live, you don’t know what the day’s script will be and have to have your wits about you,” he said.

“I’ll have adrenalin withdrawal and will miss the fantastic team but the hardest part of a breakfast show are the early starts and I’ve been doing that for 13 years. I’m looking forward to having more family time and reading books that aren’t just research for the next day’s interviews.”

Conlon will host his final show with co-presenter Jane Reilly on November 29, the same day as Kyle and Jackie O will deliver their final show in Sydney.

The show was the top commercial FM breakfast show in the latest radio ratings survey by Nielsen with a 13.7 per cent share of the audience.
