Former AFR editor brings luxury New York Times magazine to Australia
The former editor of the AFR’s Life & Leisure and Luxury magazines, Katarina Kroslakova, is to publish a new upmarket title after striking a licencing agreement with The New York Times.
Through her publishing company KK Press, Kroslakova will bring T: The New York Times Style Magazine to Australia.
T: Australia will publish quarterly, beginning in early 2021, with its print magazine supported by a digital edition. It will have a cover price of $14.95.
Kroslakova said T: Australia will fill a “gap in the market” by showcasing culture, fashion, food, wine, architecture, interiors, travel, craftsmanship and society.
“The New York Times has a significant digital readership in Australia, so it makes sense to serve this influential audience content that’s even more relevant to them – with local authority and global context,” she said.
“This year has been extraordinarily challenging for the media landscape in Australia, and for magazines in particular. Like many, I miss the magazines that have gone. The impacts of COVID-19 have made us love magazines even more, with subscription rates going through the roof. People want their favourite magazines – and some new ones.”
T Magazine publishes 11 times a year in the US and has licensing editions in China, Japan, Singapore and Qatar.
Michael Greenspon, global head of NYT licensing and print innovation for The New York Times, said: “We are excited to work with Katarina and the KK Press team on T Australia, relying on their editorial and creative strengths to deliver T’s exclusive stories and unique perspective to the Australian audience.”
