Tom Ainsworth, the current senior vice president of marketing, GYM, research , sales enablement and sales at Move in the US, and former sales director for REA Group, is to return home to Australia to head up sales at Domain.

The announcement comes a week after Fairfax announced its real estate arm would branch out into mortgage broking, with plans to offer an end-to-end solution for consumers.

Ainsworth has been working in the US, at News Corp’s Move for the last two years, across research marketing and sales.

Prior to that he was with REA Group in sales for six years.

In his new role, Ainsworth will be based in Melbourne, reporting directly to chief commercial officer, Tony Blamey.

Antony Catalano, CEO of Domain Group said Ainsworth was an “outstanding appointment”.

“I am thrilled to announce the appointment of leading real estate executive, Tom Ainsworth, to Domain as director of residential sales.

“Tom is an outstanding appointment for Domain Group, having worked in real estate media in the US and Australia for more than eight years. He is held in high regard for his in-depth knowledge and understanding of the real estate community and its key players.

“I’m delighted that Tom has decided to return to Australia to join Domain based on the progress we have made in the past three years, the quality of our team, the strength of our strategy and clear growth plans.”

Ainsworth will join the company in a few months.

On Monday, Fairfax Media announced Domain will be listed as a separate entity on the Australian Securities Exchange, after it did not receive a binding offer from TPG Capital or Hellman & Friedman.

Fairfax CEO Greg Hywood said the business is making “excellent progress” and making “all necessary regulatory approvals” to complete the separate listing by the end of the year.
