Foxtel installs dragon on Sydney Opera House steps ahead of Game of Thrones premiere

Dragon 1A model dragon is being installed on the steps of Sydney Opera House as it prepares to host the premiere of season five of hit HBO drama Game of Thrones on Monday evening.

The installation is being put in ahead of the premiere party hosted by Foxtel at the venue on Monday, hours after the new season airs in the US.

Dragons are associated with one of the central characters of the US show Daenerys Targaryan, who brings the extinct creatures back to life.

Foxtel has secured the rights to show the fantasy show at the same time as it airs in the US, and is making it available to people for $30 as it looks to stem the trend of pirating in Australia.

The last season was one of the most pirated of all-time, with Australia the worst offender according to figures from Torrentfreak.

Foxtel said the Dragon would be unveiled tomorrow morning at 8.30am.
