Foxtel teams with TV giant FOX Entertainment to create new shows for Aussie and US markets
Aussie-owned Foxtel Group and US TV production company FOX Entertainment have entered into an international agreement to co-develop fresh series for both markets.
Part of the deal includes creating original content for Foxtel and the company’s popular streaming platform BINGE, with production taking place in Australia.
Rob Wade, CEO of FOX Entertainment said: “Expanding FOX Entertainment’s international footprint through innovative business models is a principal priority for us, particularly as we unfurl our recently formalised structure built on three key business operations – FOX Network, FOX Entertainment Studios and FOX Entertainment Global.
“Each of these divisions are designed to power our growth strategy by uniting with the best and the brightest companies and creatives around the world, and Foxtel Group is the perfect partner to help us achieve this goal.”
Alison Hurbert-Burns, executive director of entertainment content and commissioner of Foxtel Group said investing in strategic content partnerships is reflective of the company’s desire to deliver global thinking to local productions, whilst also sharing Australian stories around the world.
“We’re looking to find new ways to collaborate and bring more production to our shores, to deliver Australian productions that are popular for Foxtel and BINGE audiences but also deliver for international partners.”
Last year, Foxtel Group licensed several series through FOX Entertainment Global, including the comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale on BINGE, which also licensed Dan Harmon’s animated series Krapopolis and Jon Hamm’s Grimsburg, both produced by FOX Entertainment’s Bento Box Entertainment.
The news comes just weeks after Foxtel announced seven new channels with content from studios such as ITV, NBC Universal, BBC Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The new linear channels include British, Real History, Real Crime, Famous, Travel, Fashion TV, and DocPlay. The first four channels (British, Real History, Real Crime, Famous) will join the service from August 1, with Fashion TV launching August 6, Travel on August 15, and DocPlay on September 3.
