Smith: departing Foxtel next year for London.

Foxtel chief marketer Ed Smith is to depart the pay-TV operator after almost four years in the role.

The senior marketer announced his departure to staff this morning in an email saying that he and his partner were moving to London.

In the same email to staff Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein said: “I’m sorry to have to inform you that Ed Smith, our executive director of sales and marketing, will be leaving Foxtel some time during the first half of next year.

“Ed and his partner Stephen have been planning a move to London for some time and have decided that 2016 is the year to do it. While this is sad for Foxtel, I’m sure you’ll agree it’s exciting for Ed.

“Fortunately, Ed has agreed to stay on until we can find a suitable replacement.”

Smith joined Foxtel in at the end of January in 2012. He has held a variety of senior roles at News Corp companies over a number of years including being group marketing director of News Limited, CEO of News Digital Media and CEO of Carsguide.

He has led Foxtel through a major marketing push this year and also had to deal with the misreporting issues that were uncovered last year in relation to their media agency Mediacom. Foxtel later moved the account to sister GroupM agency Mindshare.

“On a personal note I would like to thank Ed for the advice and support he has given to me and to the entire executive team,” said Freudenstein.

“His infectious enthusiasm, generosity, imagination, thoughtfulness and good humour will be sorely missed.”
