Frydenberg’s budget speech takes in 413,000 metro viewers for ABC

The ABC’s extensive coverage of the 2021 Budget took place overnight, and 413,000 metro viewers tuning in for Budget 2021: The Treasurer’s Speech.

The speech kicked off two-and-a-half hours of budget coverage, which started after 634,000 metro viewers watched ABC News at 7pm. The Treasurer’s speech was followed by a news special at 8pm, and a reaction and analysis program at 9pm, but neither which made the Top 20 metro programs.

The ABC took a 14.4% network share for the evening, low for its recent standards. The night was won by Nine, whose Lego Masters black and white challenge was viewed by 683,000 people across metro markets and also took out the three key advertising demographics.

Nine had a 29.6% share on Tuesday, ahead of Seven’s 28.0% and Ten with 19.7%. Nine also won the primary channel share with 20.9%.

Among other entertainment programs, Ten’s Masterchef Australia took in 573,000 metro viewers, while 558,000 tuned into Seven’s Big Brother across the five metro markets.

The top rating program overall was Seven News, which aired to 1.009 million metro viewers, ahead of Seven News at 6.30 (977,000), Nine News (948,000) and Nine News 6:30 (935,000).

The top rating multi-channel was 7mate, which also had the most-watched multi-channel program Outback Truckers with 165,000 metro viewers.
