Get Nicked put me off TV: Giannopoulos

Nick Giannopoulos Nick Giannopoulos says his negative experience with the cancelled sitcom Get Nicked in 2006 has made him prefer films over television comedy.

“We had worked very hard on that project and we had all the scripts ready. Its cancellation put me off TV,” Giannopoulos told Encore.

Get Nicked was a sitcom Giannopoulos developed in 2005, to be produced by Granada. A pilot was shot and the show was picked up by Seven Network, but the project was ultimately cancelled by the network before it went into production.

“Seven ran out of money buying football – Seven and Ten acquired the 2007-2011 AFL rights in 2006 – and cancelled it,” recalled Giannopoulos.

Giannopoulos’ last TV work was as the host of the short-lived reality format The Singing Office for Fox8 in 2007.

The writer/actor/producer will release The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2 -the follow-up to his 2000 movie hit – on May 20, said that although films take a long time to make, cinema is currently what he wants to do.

“Now I feel like I’ve done the TV thing with Acropolis Now (which aired on Seven from 1989 to 1992). Although it took five years to make The Kings of Mykonos, what I want is to keep making films,” he said.
