Glover and FitzSimons set radio interview world record
Richard Glover, ABC 702’s radio presenter, with author and journalist Peter FitzSimons have set new Guinness World Record for the longest one-on-one radio interview after 24 hours on air.
The announcement:
THEY’VE DONE IT – Glover and FitzSimons set new world record!!!
After 24 long hours, copious cups of tea and a conversation that has covered everything from Australian explorers, commercial radio, parenting, rugby, first kisses and red bandanas, 702 ABC Sydney’s Richard Glover and journalist and author Peter FitzSimons have set a new Guinness World Record for the longest one-on-one radio interview.
Exposed to the world outside thanks to the glass frontage of the ABC Shop in Ultimo, the two men began the interview at 10am on Sunday 11 December and remained buoyant throughout the long night, entertaining thousands of ABC Digital Radio and 702 ABC Sydney online listeners, some as far afield as Harbing, China.
Their moment of triumph came this morning, Monday 12 December 2011 at 10am when the broadcast officially ended and they were presented with an official certificate, trophy, cake and champagne.

Glover had the easy job in this. All he had to do was start with one simple request: “Well, Peter, tell us a bit about yourself.” Twenty-four hours later FitzSimons, who can talk underwater with a mouthful of marbles, would still be going, even 24 days later if given the chance. The word for this is “onanism” – in this case, mutual onanism.
The mutual mediocrity society AGM.
Thank God we missed it.
