Group M expands talent push
WPP’s media agencies have come together to offer 20 intern positions as they seek to bring new talent into the company.
The M Grad programme is an extension of a project launched by Group M at Mumbrella360 in 2012.
The company held an open day at its North Sydney offices, with successful applicants getting experience across Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus Xaxis and AgencyM.
Elissa Good- Omozusi, chief HR & talent officer at GroupM, said: “It was clear to us at the inception of The M Grad Project, at Mumbrella360 in 2012, that we had struck gold when it came to creating an opportunity for us to connect early with up and coming student talent. We have since taken ‘The M Grad’ franchise further by creating The M Grad Open Day, and more recently The M Grad Programme.”
John Steedman, chairman and CEO of GroupM, said: “Recruiting, developing and training the best young talent is a priority for GroupM agencies. The M Grad Programme is a great initiative that we are proud of and will be very important as we continue to grow in the future.”
Hope at last. There is nowhere near enough of this going on in our industry. Glad to see someone taking the initiative.

I worked in some other agencies in the past and we always pushed for interns but head office was always said no to the idea.
I think training up interns is great for every one as it is hard to get a start in some agencies with out some prior experience, and most hires are direct from the UK/ Europe.
Good too see Group M doing this, I hope other agencies wake up.

From last year’s batch most went on to get full time offers and stayed at GroupM. The rest got valuable experience… Good initiative all round.

Wasn’t like this 3 years ago, when it was impossible to hire replacement staff.
How times change………………

As one of the lucky few that took part in the open day, I can say that I got a lot of information about the agencies that I never would have gotten otherwise and the people organising the open day were happy to answer any questions we had. As a soon-to-be grad, it is very encouraging to see this kind of initiative instead of the hopelessness we keep hearing about. Thanks, GroupM!

The Open Day was such an incredible experience – never before have I been able to feel so sure about a position before even applying!

So refreshing to hear that there are in fact media agencies out there looking to hire students. Group M your approach is fantastic, hopefully more agencies will follow suit.
