Gruen reveals new logo and name in wake of ABC Budget cuts
Dr Mumbo concedes there’s not often much to laugh at in a Federal Budget – especially for the good folk over at the ABC who have had their funding frozen.
But the network’s spin, advertising, branding and image control panel program, Gruen, has found a way to make light of the situation by rebranding itself.
The show, now Gru, airs at 8:30pm tonight, and is inviting viewers to tune in to see what’s left of the show.
Dr Mumbo hopes Gru doesn’t suffer too much without its ‘en’.
The ABC is being gutted. The Government loathes its probing and the only thing it can do is bully the national broadcaster by continuous cuts to its budget. The Coalition is setting itself up for a fall in a change in Government when the ABC’s budget is somehow enshrined in law and it will be very difficult to do anything about it. At the moment Guthrie et al are turning both ABC TV and Radio into Repeat Alley and trying to save money with the demolition of production silos. Next it will be slash-and-burn with its online operations. Rupert must be pleased.

sad that a marketing website, which should be leading the charge for private enterprise media, consistently defends the bloated ABC – which detracts from media that is PAID FOR.

I’m reading the ABC from London – why on earth don’t I see ads like I do on the BBC in Sydney?

Robbo, Mumbrella’s about more than just marketing. The ABC is media, whether you like it or not.

The critics of the ABC seem to forget that, unlike their commercial counterparts, have to, by legislation, broadcast radio and television nationally. Their gross content hours make the commercial broadcasters look puny, and on a CPM basis very good value.

If the private enterprise media made something that was better than the ABC, then this wouldn’t be a problem would it?
I would have thought the idea of personal responsibility and looking at the internal factors you can control would appeal to a private enterprise fan.

To be clear there aren’t any budget cuts directly to the ABC, rather the guaranteed YoY increase to the ABCs budget indexed against inflation has been removed.
So again there aren’t any cuts, rather there aren’t any budget increases.
