Guy Pearce wins best supporting actor at Emmys

Guy Pearce has won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a TV movie/mini-series for Mildred Pierce starring Kate Winslet at the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Pearce accepted the award, sans-moustache as his character Monty so handsomely wears, commenting that on-screen sex with Kate Winslet was a drawcard and inspiration – “Thank you for allowing me to insert myself into your world of Mildred”.

Set in Glendale California 1931, Mildred Pierce is the story of divorced single mom Mildred Pierce (Winslet) who decides to open a restaurant business after struggling to find work to support her two daughters. The new career tears at the already-strained relationship with her ambitious elder daughter, Veda.

Kate Winslet won immediately after for Outstanding Lead Actress in a TV series or Telemovie.

In other Australia-related Emmy news, Beyond Productions’ Mythbusters was nominated for Outstanding Reality Program but missed out to Deadliest Catch.
