Hero chief operating officer James Greet departs the agency

Chief operating officer of Hero, James Greet, has departed the agency, with plans to set up a new business, Mumbrella can reveal.

Greet joined Hero in a permanent role in 2021,  following a six-month period as an advisor. He was hired to help bring the acquisitions made by founder, Ben Lilley, under one roof. These included McCann, The Red Republic, Smart, JSA Digital and Engine Room Productions.

Greet has returned to his consultancy business

With this project now completed, he has moved on from Hero just prior to the end of 2022.

Hero and Greet declined to comment further. Further detail’s of Greet’s new project will be announced in due course.

Greet’s hire also came during a period of growth, which included wins for Toyota, Maybelline New York and eBay.

Joining Hero was Greet’s first agency job since he departed Cummins & Partners in 2017, running his own consultancy, Clean Thinking in the interim.

It is also understood there will be no direct replacement for the COO role.

Originally moving to Australia in 2002 as OMD’s CEO, he went on to run Mindshare and Ikon Communications, as well as taking the role of chief media officer at Cummins & Partners.

In September, Hero hired former Jack Morton Worldwide head of growth, Souad Saied, as its Sydney managing director.
