How do you make interest rate hikes and the Reserve Bank sexy?

Dr Mumbo certainly never thought it possible to link the Reserve Bank’s interest rate hikes to sex toys, but here we are.

Sexual wellness brand Lovehoney responded swiftly to the Tuesday’s increase with an out-of-home campaign and  a clear message: “If you’re getting screwed by 4.1, you might as well enjoy it.”

While Dr Mumbo agrees that Philip Lowe is seen by many as a bit of a ‘dick’, Lovehoney sure has taken that idea one step further.

Lovehoney’s managing director Charlie Ganzen said the campaign is about “injecting a little playfulness into people’s lives and reminding them to prioritise their well-being”.

The light-hearted and humorous tone – including the tagline “don’t let interest rates screw you – do it yourself” – was also designed to bring a smile to people’s faces.

Dr Mumbo enjoys a good bit of innuendo, like the brand’s encouragement that Aussies “take matters into their own hands”.

The bold narrative Lovehoney has adopted is welcomed, especially given so many are facing hard times.
