Hungry Jack’s recruits the Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen guy in spin off summer BBQ Whopper track
Hungry Jack’s has recruited Japanese YouTube sensation, Pikotaro, better known as the Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen guy, to parody his viral smash hit song with a ‘summer BBQ Whopper’ version.
Created by Hungry Jack’s’ newly appointed-PR agency Eleven and its content arm BOLT, the ad features Pikotaro building an imaginary Whopper burger as he does his signature dance.
The ad aims to help Hungry Jack’s tap into culture and merge two fan favourite burgers together.
Claudia Cullen, brand marketing manager at Hungry Jack’s, said in a statement: “We wanted to create something that made our audience laugh and ultimately appreciate the fun yet delicious food we offer at Hungry Jack’s.”
The ad will be hosted on the brands social channels.

The target audience loves it (just at the Facebook numbers for shares and comments) that is all that matters.

If you view it on FB it’s gone pretty nuts. 10k shares and a million views in 5 days. That’s pretty good going whether you like pineapple on your burger or not.

Although its slow to cash in on this viral celebrity – I still thinks its great and better than any other ad that would sell this burger

A million views in five days. Globally.
A single decent prime-time TV spot can do that in 30 seconds.

Are you serious? It’s a meme that went stale two years ago, the target demographic is cringing. Just look at the ad on YouTube and read the comments.

Low budget is no excuse for horrendously bad content. Low budget is an excuse for just ‘good’ content, not ‘great’ content.
Those views are global and promoted (bought). This is a horrible sentiment for burger king, an irritating ad and based on (as mentioned) an out-dated and stale meme.
Embarrassing.
