Ikon on alert as SPC Ardmona pitches media
SPC Ardmona is reviewing its media account with incumbent Ikon Communications on alert, Mumbrella can reveal.
The review for the major foods brand, which owns brands such as Ardmona, SPC, WeightWatchers and IXL, comes at a difficult time for SPC Ardmona, which was last week turned down by the Federal Government after the company made a request for industry assistance.
SPC marketing director Bronwyn Powell confirmed the media pitch to Mumbrella but declined to comment on the agencies being invited to pitch. “I don’t want to comment at this stage more than we are reviewing media as part of course of good business practice,” said Powell.
The media pitch comes after the company last year pitched its creative business which was won by Leo Burnett.
SPC Ardmona’s pitch now sees Ikon having to defend two of its large FMCG brand simultaneously, with Coca-Cola also under review. The agency was last year able to defend the Myer account but lost Vodafone to Bohemia in December last year.
Powell said the media pitch was not related to last week’s government decision. “This is not attached to (the) government decision,” she said.

What is going on over there at Ikon? Is this based on staff moves / lack of innovation or natural occurrence?

Based on the article it would seem it just just company process – with creative pitched last year. I assume when your business’ costs are being looked at so closely, you have to review every supplier.
