Ikon loses two more team members following Mel Roberts’ resignation

Following on from Mel Roberts resigning as Ikon Melbourne’s managing director, the agency has lost two more staff members, Mumbrella can reveal.

Communications planner Linh Nguyen has resigned to move into a new role at another WPP agency, while trading director Louise Anderson has also resigned to “pursue the next stage of her career”.

“We wish both Louise and Linh every success in their future career paths. Ikon is actively recruiting and will make announcements in due course,” said an Ikon spokesperson.

Nguyen will finish up with the agency on 11 October, while Anderson’s last day is 18 October. Nguyen joined the agency in 2015 as a communications coordinator, working her way up to the role of communications planner, which she has held since October last year.

Anderson, meanwhile, commenced at Ikon three years ago in 2016 as a communications trader, and was promoted to trading manager, also in October last year.

Following her resignation, Roberts will hand over the managing director responsibilities on 30 September to Ikon Sydney’s managing partner, James Sawyer, which will see his remit expand to take on responsibilities for both the Sydney and Melbourne offices.

Last month, five roles were made redundant at Ikon on the Myer account, leaving one person on Ikon’s Myer account. The five redundancies constituted a quarter of Ikon’s Melbourne team, which, before the redundancies, sat at approximately 20 people.

A few weeks before the redundancies were announced, WPP split the Myer account across two of its agencies, Ikon and Essence, seeing them jointly handle the account under the leadership of Jenny Pham, client partner/ managing partner of Essence. Just two months after the agency “partnership” was announced, Pham has also resigned.

Update 3pm 23 September 2019: WPP has since confirmed that Linh Nguyen will be moving on to fellow WPP agency Wavemaker, where she will be business manager within Group M bespoke agency, Team Mondelēz.
