‘Innovative’ Scrine and Simpson receive funding

Gil Scrine/Louise van Rooyen’s BeamAfilm and John L. Simpson’s Titan View will receive funding from Screen Australia’s Innovative Distribution program.

According to the agency’s head of marketing, their proposals demonstrated a commitment to building audiences for Australian content outside the mainstream. Funding will span two years, until the end of the 2011/12 financial year.

BeamAfilm will provide an On-Demand documentary portal, focusing on the education and library markets: “The whole idea behind beamAfilm is to make a much wider range of documentaries accessible through monetised streaming – viewed at home, in the classroom, the local library or on the bus going to school,” said Scrine.

According to van Rooyen, the grant will “allow the partnership between Antidote Films and Pan Pacific Interactive to distribute the wealth of Australian film content in a secure on-demand environment.”

As for Titan View’s low-budget feature model, films will be released on VOD, DVD and via internet/mobile services.

The selection panel included Andrew Mackie (Transmission Films), producer Sue Murray, consultant Gayle Lake and Drumm herself.
