IPG’s Matt Scotton jumps to GroupM for new role

GroupM’s soon-to-launch merged agency EssenceMediacom has a new chief product and marketing officer for Australia and New Zealand.

Matt Scotton has joined EssenceMediacom, which goes live locally on 31 January, from IPG Mediabrands where he was most recently regional chief strategy officer for Initiative in the Asia Pacific region. He has 20 years’ industry experience spanning media, consulting and creative agency roles.

In his new role he will join the agency’s executive committee and will lead the agency’s growth agenda and overarching product proposition nationally.

Pat Crowley, EssenceMediacom ANZ CEO, said: “EssenceMediacom is an entirely new proposition, in the Australia and New Zealand market, Matt will play a vital role in building the product, sharing our story and helping drive growth for our clients. Matt has deep media and communications knowledge, creative flare and boundless energy. He is a proven collaborator with local regional and global experience, and he shares our vision that our industry can make the world a better place.”

Scotton added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Pat and the team at EssenceMediacom. I’ve long be an admirer of both these powerhouse agencies, now being part of bringing them together, with all the amazing capability across the funnel, is a dream role as chief product and marketing officer. I’m looking forward to working with our national teams to harness our combined expertise, experience and vision to make best use of the technologies available now and the on the horizon to generate world class and future-focussed solutions for clients,” Scotton, says.

Bringing together the overall product offering under Scotton is a clear decision, aimed to help realise the promise of the EssenceMediacom merger, which sees the business bring together the digital, data and technology capability of Essence, with the strategic network capability of Mediacom.

Globally EssenceMediacom will boast 10,000 employees across 125 offices, with more than 500 staff locally.
