Ita Buttrose to depart Studio 10

Media veteran Ita Buttrose will air her final show as co-host of Network Ten’s Studio 10 tomorrow morning after five years with the program.

Buttrose first joined the team on Studio 10 when it launched in 2013. She was previously the founding editor of Cleo, as well as editor of the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph and the Australian Women’s Weekly.

Buttrose has been with Studio 10 since the show launched in 2013

Since Jessica Rowe’s departure from the show in March, Buttrose has been presenting with Joe Hildebrand, Sarah Harris and Denise Drysdale.

Buttrose said she had had a long involvement with Ten, but it was time to leave.

“I’ve had five great years on Studio 10, but it is time for me to move on and focus on other parts of my life, including spending more time with my grandchildren and writing,” Buttrose said.

Buttrose is currently writing two novels, adding to the 11 other books she has already published.

Network Ten’s chief content officer, Beverley McGarvey, said the network was sad to see Buttrose go.

“Ita is a true legend of the Australian media and a great colleague. Everyone at Studio 10 and Network Ten, as well as her many fans, will miss her but we fully understand and support her decision to step away from the show. She is, of course, welcome to come home to Studio 10 at any time,” Buttrose said.

Since launch, Studio 10 has screened more than 1,000 episodes. Last year, the daily show was extended to three-and-a-half hours, running from 8:30am to 12pm each day. McKnight, who was at the time still EP of the show, praised the cast.

“I genuinely believe they have the best chemistry on television. They can play off each other, get testy, then have a laugh a minute later,” he said as the show’s length was extended.

New co-hosts for the show will be announced soon.
