Jenny Pham resigns as Essence’s vice president, client partner
Essence’s vice president, client partner Jenny Pham has resigned, Mumbrella can reveal, just two months after she began to lead a “partnership” between Essence and fellow WPP media agency Ikon on the Myer account.
Pham’s resignation, effective from 25 October, is one of a number of exits connected to both Myer and its media agencies. Ikon’s Melbourne MD Mel Roberts and Ikon staffers Louise Anderson and Linh Nguyen have also stepped down from their roles.
The Ikon and Essence partnership preceded five Ikon redundancies on the Myer account. These redundancies constituted a quarter of Ikon’s Melbourne team, which previously sat at approximately 20 people, and left one Ikon team member on the account.
“We greatly appreciate Jenny’s contributions in establishing the Melbourne office for Essence in the Australian market, and wish her the very best in her future endeavours,” a Group M spokesperson told Mumbrella.
“Essence has a strong team in place in both the Melbourne and Sydney offices, and as always, the teams will remain fully committed to our clients.”
Pham has been in the position since January 2018, after a stint as Maxus’ Melbourne managing partner (before Maxus merged with MEC, and then became Wavemaker) and roles at Mindshare, Razor Group, UM and Mediacom.
Last month, James Graver was named vice president, managing director Australia of Essence. And internationally, Essence recently named Kyoko Matshushita as global CEO, following Christian Juhl’s appointment as Group M global CEO.
Ikon has indicated that further announcements will be made “in due course”. Roberts will hand over the managing director responsibilities on 30 September to Ikon Sydney’s managing partner, James Sawyer, which will see his remit expand to take on responsibilities for both the Sydney and Melbourne offices.
Firstly – this might be old or outdated news. But I believe Kathmandu was recently an Essence client. The brand has just appointed Vizeum. I don’t know if the timing coincides with Jenny Pham’s exit though.
