Keep Left appoints former News Corp journo as media strategist

PR agency Keep Left has appointed Jayitri Smiles as media strategist and copywriter.

The announcement:

Marketing communications agency Keep Left has strengthened its PR department with the appointment of former Herald Sun Senior Reporter Jayitri Smiles to a hybrid role of Media Strategist and Copywriter.

Jay has spent the last four years as a journalist at News Corp Australia across Leader, general news and most recently as Herald Sun senior property reporter. Previously, she has been part of Nine’s marketing team, in-house at the Climate Council, and was a regular contributor to Time Out Melbourne.

Her experience writing on a broad range of topics and formats, from business profiles to market updates and economic trends, made her perfectly suited to support Keep Left’s diverse client portfolio across property, finance, technology, sustainability, retail and NFP.

Keep Left Head of PR Tim Lele said, “A polished presenter, with a strategic and considered approach, we knew Jay was a Leftie from the first time we spoke, and it’s no surprise she’s already killing it in her new role.”

“With a fine-tuned news sense and in-depth understanding of the evolving media landscape, we’re stoked to have Jay on board to provide a seasoned journo lens to our clients’ campaign strategies and a layer of editorial polish to media materials.”

“From turning around punchy editorial copy to grilling clients with tricky questions in media training sessions, Jay is already proving to be a valuable asset to the team.”

Smiles said she was keen to take on the challenge of a senior role within the integrated agency to expand her skillsets and career while working with a variety of high calibre clients.

“I’ve seen a fair few pitches in my time as a journalist – some better than others – so I knew if I was going to move agency side, it would be with an agency that values media relationships and focussed on quality over quantity.”

“It’s been fun teaching my clients the tricks of the trade and how to form stronger relationships with journalists.”

Keep Left is a true hybrid agency, with a diverse client portfolio that includes Kathmandu, ANZ, Greening Australia, Openpay, NEFF and Guide Dogs Australia.
