KFC’s Bucketheads, Diamonds star Caitlin Bassett, Commonwealth Games and top brands among new sessions for Sports Marketing Summit
An Australian Diamond and Socceroo, the head of communications for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, the rise of the Bucketheads and top marketers from Swisse, Sanitarium and Heineken are among the latest sessions to be announced for Mumbrella’s Sports Marketing Summit.
The Summit takes place on June 21 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the same day as the first Sports Marketing Awards, where there are just a few days left to get your entries in for the ten categories including Marketing Team of the Year and Best Ad Campaign. For more details click here.
A new session announced for the Summit is a panel exploring the different ways top brands are using sports to drive their marketing and create new fanbases amongst consumers.
It will feature Andrew Campbell, managing director for Heineken ANZ, Sarah Chibnall, general manager of communications for wellness brand Swisse and David Martin, national community engagement manager for Sanitarium, in a session led by Havas Sports and Entertainment boss Francis Coady.
Two more international athletes have also joined the Ask and Athlete panel, with one of Australia’s most recognisable sportswomen, Australian Diamonds and Sunshine Coast goal shooter Caitlin Bassett set to share her thoughts on the landscape.
Meanwhile Socceroos and Western Sydney Wanderers defender Robbie Cornthwaite will bring an international perspective to the panel, sharing experiences from his time playing for Asian clubs.
In another new session announced today KFC will talk about how it has grown its brand over the last decade with a close association to the Australian pre-occupation of cricket, in a relationship that has created the cult of the Buckethead.
Sally Spriggs, marketing director for group meals, will be joined by recently-named chairman of sports marketing agency Prism to dissect the ad campaigns, integrations and activations that have made the chicken chain synonymous with the sport from Test to Big Bash level.
A year today Australia will play host to its biggest sporting event in years, the Commonwealth Games, which are being staged on the Gold Coast. In an on stage interview Marcus Taylor, head of communications and public affairs for the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee will discuss the opportunities for Australian brands around the Games, as well as the challenges in creating and hosting such a huge global event.
Other sessions already announced include an international keynote from NFL digital marketer Joel Price, dissecting the Paralympics movement with CEO Lynne Anderson, panels on the place of alcohol marketing in sports, how to get the most value from a sports sponsorship and the future of women’s sports and how Cricket Australia built a global audience of 50m for its media brand.
