Kiis 101.1 Melbourne gets new content director, Tony Aldridge

ARN has announced Tony Aldridge as content director for Kiis 101.1 in Melbourne where he will work to shape the content strategy for the station.

Aldridge has been with ARN since 2018 when he joined as the content director for Mix 102.3 and Cruise 1323 in Adelaide.

Aldridge will focus on breakfast and drive in Melbourne

In his new role, Aldridge will take on all operational responsibility for the station alongside Kiis 101.1 assistant content director Daniel Bozykowski, with a focus on both the breakfast show and national drive show.

Sam Thompson was previously content director for both Kiis FM and Gold FM until October 2017. Upon Thompson’s departure, Sue Carter, the content director for Adelaide’s Mix 102.3 FM and Cruise 1323 became Melbourne’s Gold FM content director.

At the same time, Kiis 106.5’s content director Derek Bargwanna took on Kiis 101.1 in Melbourne, which will now be Aldridge’s responsibility. The two will work together alongside Bozykowski, Mumbrella understands.

Kiis 101.1’s breakfast show in Melbourne features Jason Hawkins and Polly ‘PJ’ Harding (‘Jase & PJ’), who during the most recent radio ratings survey commanded just 4.9% of the listening audience, down from 5.7% in the previous survey.

In Melbourne, the nationally syndicated ‘Will & Woody’ show, featuring Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw, command 6.7% of the audience, up from 6.2%.

ARN national content director Duncan Campbell said he was happy the company could promote internal talent to handle the shows.

“I’m delighted to welcome Tony to the role of Kiis 101.1 content director in Melbourne and pleased to be able to make this appointment internally as well.

“During his time in Adelaide, Tony’s leadership skills along with his creativity and attention to detail created an environment that brought out the best in our team there. Tony will strengthen the team at Kiis 101.1 and highlights our continued focus on the station.”

Kiis recently celebrated five years under its new branding after ARN made the decision to rename the Mix network when Kyle and Jackie O moved across from rival 2Day FM in 2013.

Kiis has also made a raft of leadership changes, promotions and shuffles lately, which ramped up following the departure of CEO Rob Atkinson, and Conversant Media being folded into the company.

The parent company of ARN, HT&E (formerly APN News and Media), has been focusing on “streamlining the organisational structure between the corporate and ARN divisions”, chairman Hamish McLennan said last year.

As part of the restructure, Melbourne sales director Nick Flood was promoted to national sales director last month, while Anthony Bartram came across from Ooh Media to take on the new role of national trading director.

In addition, Lauren Joyce took on the role of national strategy director, and Sam Harris came from agency side to fill the void left by Flood in Melbourne.

Rich Howells then became national digital commercial director, and the former MD of Nova Perth, Gary Roberts, came on board as managing director of Perth’s 96 FM.
