Kyle and Jackie O Show to end
The Kyle & Jackie O show – one of the most controversial radio programs in Australian radio history – is to come to an end later this month.

Although the announcement comes after weeks of speculation about contract negotiations, Sandilands claimed this was not the reason for the duo departing. He told 2DayFM listeners: “They offered us a very nice deal to stay on for a few more years.” He added: “This has been a great company to work for.”
Jackie O said the departure was at the time of the breakfast duo’s choosing.
The show repeatedly attracted controversy including a disastrous lie detector segment in which a girl talked about being raped, comments by Sandilands about sending Magda Subszanski to a concentration camp that led to him being suspended, and an on air attack on a female News Corp journalist that led to an advertising boycott.
But the show remained number one in the Sydney commercial FM battle for much of its run, making millions of dollars for the radio station, which is owned by Southern Cross Austereo. Highlights from the show are also networked across the rest of the Today Network.
The announcements signal turmoil for the Sydney and Melbourne radio markets. Both Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa show and WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda have been threatening to unseat Kyle & Jackie O. In Melbourne, SCA’s Fox FM is also to lose its breakfast duo with The Matt & Jo Show also coming to an end. And Nova’s melbourne breakfast duo Hughesy & Kate are also departing.

After more than a decade on air together as Australia’s most popular radio duo, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O will not return to the airwaves together as the Kyle and Jackie O Show in 2014.
Both Kyle and Jackie O will celebrate an unrivalled decade at the top of FM radio in Sydney where they have held the number one spot for over six years and a sensational 50 surveys at #1 in a row. There is no doubt their legions of loyal fans will want to say farewell to this dynamic duo and so a month of fitting celebrations will ensue.
Southern Cross Austereo Head of Content Craig Bruce said, “We’re proud that Kyle and Jackie have not only given Sydney radio audiences the most entertaining radio show ever, they have also raised millions of dollars for charities and those in need whilst also enthralling listeners with the world’s hottest music artists and exclusive interviews with famous Hollywood celebrities. They have certainly lived up to their show mantra ‘Breakfast with the Stars’! None of which could have happened without the strong and dedicated team working hard behind the scenes”.
Recognising this show’s incredible and sustained success, this is a mutual decision in consultation with Kyle, Jackie and 2Day FM.
Kyle and Jackie O will be together on air for the last time from 6am on Friday 29 November, 2013.
Our focus will now turn towards developing a fantastic new show for 2014 with further announcements in due course.
A spokeswoman for dmg Radio Australia told Mumbrella there are no plans for Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O to join Nova FM.

I’m sure this post is going to attract plenty of “good riddance” like vitriol. But to the duo’s credit they lasted 10 years in the very tough world of Sydney radio, stayed on top for much of it and – the definer of success – left on their own terms. Regardless of what you thought of their program (and its numerous indiscretions) you can’t begrudge their success. Too, I’m guessing both of them are into their 40s and probably time to do something new (bit too old for yoof radio?). Best of luck to them and well done on their successes (for which I very much doubt they’ll be remembered.)

Be interesting to see the effect on revenue. Would have to think ratings will drop next year however advertisers 2day lost may return and revenue will increase.

Agree with Wayne. It’s very easy to jump on the moral high horse and look down on the pair (especially Kyle) but at the end of the day, they are two of FM radios most successful personalities and regardless of your opinion of them, you have to recognise and acknowledge that.

It Says a lot about the Australian publics taste when a personality like Kyle Sandilands who has a reputation for being arrogant, rude, abusive and generally in poor taste, has a consistently top rating radio show. It seems like it is perfectly acceptable to abuse people he disagrees with like the journo he called a “fat slag”, as long as he entertains people whilst they are sitting in morning traffic. Go figure.

A lot of people like to attack the dj’s but in reality they’re just the front-men for a dedicated team of writers, producers and ad/pr agencies that write their content for them. All they needed to do was be identifiable or vilified in one way or another.
Writers and producers stay the same they’ll just find another couple of actors to fill their shoes – instead of someone genuinely funny.
My money’s on a has-been or well established face / duo replacing them rather than someone new given the chunk of ad expenditure that show is responsible for.

Kyle and Jackie O were the king and queen of bogan Sydney, and contributed massively to the dumbing down and coarsening of the market.
I’m thrilled they are now history, and I’m crossing my fingers that they aren’t headed for another network. Wouldn’t it be amazing if someone with wit, talent and intelligence (and at least a year 11 education) were able to shine in their place.

I admit Wayne that it’s best in most situations to wish people well but quite frankly I can and do begrudge them their success. They’re show in my humble opinion was built on cruelty and bullying. Part of their success came form appealing to the worst of our nature. Strap a teenager to a lie detector, tell a young woman they can’t see their long lost relative, make fun of the gay newsreader. This is not entirely their fault. The station let them get away with it and encouraged it. They are just as complicit. Remember Lowie? Another presenter broke into his house live on air and he ended up leaving the network. I hope they disappear off the face of the earth like one of Jackie O’s television projects.

The only radio show on FM without fake laughter, over told stories etc.. unlike presenters like Fifi and Jules – I can’t listen to with their fake / over the top laugh and exaggerated stories – why do presenters feel they have to over act everything? Have never listened to their radio show, but in every other public setting involving Kyle Sandilands, I’ve always had a good and unexpected laugh…. ‘Education snobs’ Why refer to his educational level…..Who cares! The man has a sharp wit, and he’s not afraid to use it! It’s called COMEDY and it’s PRECIOUS! What else IS there?? He makes mistakes (like you and I) is called out, publicly, (like you and I?) and is genuinely quick to own his shit…. Rather than indulge in puffed up superiority, we might do well to congratulate him for ten years of service to the funny bone of his regular listeners…. Oh and also his courage to self disclose despite the spite which no doubt he knew would follow…. Good luck Kyle and Jackie O for your future ventures.man
