Lilian Sor joins Clemenger BBDO Sydney as chief strategy officer

Clemenger BBDO Sydney has appointed Lilian Sor as its chief strategy officer.

Sor is returning to Australia after spending the past six years in London, most recently as Grey London’s head of strategy.

Prior to her stint at Grey London, Sor was the strategy director and head of strategy innovation at AMV BBDO in London for four years.

In 2010, Sor had a stint in Sydney where she was the digital planner at Host Sydney for almost two years.

Sor’s appointed comes over a year after Clemenger Sydney’s chief strategy officer Al Crawford departed the agency.

The strategist said she had missed the Australian banter and is excited to work with clients who are willing to take a gamble and break the rules.

“I’ve always looked for agencies with energy, ambition and people who no matter how successful they are approach problems with a ‘beginners mind’- those who aren’t afraid to question the norm, who are optimistic about the future and who are ready to dig in to get us to somewhere bigger and better. And this is what I see and what excites me about the team at Clemenger.

“I’m really excited about working in partnership with clients who have big, meaty challenges – the type that keep ticking in the back of your mind, the type that scare you a little.

“As technology continues to change the way brands gain attention and the way consumers interact with them, there are plenty of opportunities for marketing and agency teams to leap-frog their competition who are more often than not paralysed by what’s gone, by constant navel gazing or by the fear of change and uncertainty,” Sor said in a statement to Mumbrella.

This is the first major hire Nick Garrett, CEO of Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and Sydney, has made since adding Sydney to his remit in December last year.

“I couldn’t be happier that Lilian has made the move back home and joined the team in Sydney.

“She’s undoubtedly one of Australia’s best strategic minds and has come in to not only lead the strategy department, but importantly, to make an important contribution in transforming the Sydney business in to an agency that’s fit for the future,” Garrett said.
