Long-standing 7News reporter leaves for rival network
7News Brisbane is facing another major blow with the departure of reporter Steve Hart, who is leaving to join Wollongong’s WIN News.
Last week, beloved TV news presenter Sharyn Ghidella also announced she was departing the network after more than 17 years, as did veteran sports presenter, Shane Webcke, who spent 18 years at 7News.
Hart’s decision is reportedly attributed to family reasons. His wife, who resides in Sydney, had been commuting regularly on weekends, prompting his move to be closer to his family.
Having joined the Seven Network in 2022 after gaining recognition as a respected crime reporter at Network 10, Hart’s final day with 7News will be on September 11.
Both Hart and Webcke’s departures are said to be unrelated to recent layoffs at Seven, which involved a cost-cutting effort that eliminated 150 jobs across the network.
Webcke’s decision to step down from the network after 18 years, came after discussions with management to reduce his hours and focus on his family’s agricultural business.
In a statement, he said: “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, to allow me greater flexibility and more time to pursue my family agricultural interests.”
Ghidella plans to return to Network 10 as presenter of Queensland’s 10 News First, commencing in September.
“To be returning to present a new local news service, with even more content relevant to Queenslanders, represents an exciting opportunity for me,” she said.
Ghidella will take over 10 News First from Sandra Sully in September.
“It’s wonderful to have our local news in such good hands, and I’m delighted to welcome Sharyn home to 10. I can’t wait to see the great things she and our local Queensland team will do together,” Sully said.
