MAFS to return 22 February, after Australian Open

The eighth season of Married at First Sight will launch at 7:30pm on Monday 22 February, just a few weeks after Nine’s two-part reunion special.

The first part of the reunion aired last night to 866,000 metro viewers, while part two will be broadcast tonight. Originally, the second part was set down for Sunday 7 February.

“After viewing the reunion episodes, we felt it was a better viewing experience to have them air sequentially over two consecutive nights,” a Nine spokesperson said of the decision to bring part two forward.

Instead, Nine will show the fourth episode of the Trump Show on Sunday night.

MAFS has been an exceptional performer for Nine, with many episodes episodes attracting more than a million viewers across the five capital cities. Last season of MAFS premiered to 1.15 million metro viewers and the finale pulled 1.48 million.

The specials – along with a domestic season of Travel Guides, which launched to 584,000 metro viewers – were a way for Nine to partially fill the gap created by a delayed Australian Open, which now starts next Monday (8 February).

The new season of MAFS, which will premiere as soon as the tennis wraps up, also features a new expert. Clinical sexologist Alessandra Rampolla joins John Aiken and Mel Schilling to pair the couples and advise them throughout the experiment.

“With my particular expertise, I hope to contribute to the complex mix of components that ensure marriages not only work but thrive in the long haul,” Rampolla said.
