Magda Szubanski to join Encore Score panel at Mumbrella360

Magda SzubanskiTV and film personality Magda Szubanski is to appear at next week’s Mumbrella360 conference to discuss the findings of The Encore Score, Australia’s largest and only independent survey of public sentiment towards on-air personalities.

The results of this year’s Encore Score, now in its second year, will be revealed next Thursday June 6, with the comic actress on hand to discuss the results.

The Encore Score  is conducted by research firm The Acid Test using a representative panel provided by pureprofile. This year, 3,500 people have been quizzed about more than 1,000 celebrities focusing on the key measure of celebrity power, a measure with longevity of use across many markets from television to film and advertising.

Szubanski, co-star of long-running sitcom Kath and Kim and the recent film Goddess, will discuss her enduring popularity with Australians and the decision process involved in choosing roles for both television and advertising work. In recent years, Szubanski has fronted campaigns for Jetstar and Weight Watchers.

The session at Mumbrella360 will also reveal the big moves on the list since the survey was first conducted last year with some surprising entries in the top and bottom 10 as well as some personalities whose popularity has changed dramatically in the past 12 months.

Grant Bell from The Acid Test will also be joining the Mumbrella360 panel to talk about the methodology of the survey. He argues that the Encore Score survey has been tweaked to deliver a true reading of how Australians feel about personalities after “initial research conducted found when asked whether they ‘loved’ personalities, survey respondents confused the word with ‘lust’ skewing the results based on sheer physical attractiveness”.

Bell added that the survey “offers a level playing field where each individual celebrity is seen by a comparable underlying group of Australians based on age, gender, state and income and unlike other surveys of this kind, the Encore Score captures both positive and negative sentiment sharing with the respondents not only the name of the personality but also their picture.”

The Encore Score panel will be moderated by Encore managing editor Brooke Hemphill.

Next week’s edition of Encore will focus on the results of the survey with a fully searchable list of the personalities and from next month, the Encore Score will be updated on a monthly basis. Details will follow regarding the availability of the full data set to the industry.
