Margaret Gee’s to take on AAP with digital press release delivery

ConnectWebMedia data brand Margaret Gee’s is to challenge Australian Associated Press with the launch of a digital press release centre ConnectWeb that allows businesses to send press releases using their own customised contact lists.

The service is a challenger to AAP’s Medianet service however Margaret Gee’s parent company Crown Content said it would be focusing on small to medium businesses as the outset.

“AAP aims at the corporate end of the market ,we are really trying to service the mass of small to medium businesses that have the need to market and promote their businesses and their services themselves but don’t have enormous resources inhouse,” said Hugh Martin, CEO of Crown Content.

While Margaret Gee’s Australian media database has been available online for some time, the addition of an online press release centre allows subscribers to create press releases and send information out to the Australian media directly through the site.

The company said the new service is based on the data within the Margaret Gee’s database itself and allowing users to filter through the inboxes of more than 3,800 media outlets and 21,000 contacts.

“The speed with which the media industry is changing makes those contacts and the currency of those contacts absolutely critical. Because people are moving around so much and there is so much flux, a key selling point for us is the quality of that list,” said Martin.

To go with the launch of the service Crown Content has launched the new brand Connectweb and related website ConnectWeb.com.au.

The site will host all Margaret Gee’s data, and be a gateway for subscribers of Crown’s ‘Who’s Who’ series, as well as the Local and National Guide to Government and Directory of Australian Associations.
