Mario D’Orazio and Peter Tonagh among new ABC Board member appointments
The Federal Government has appointed three new board members to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Board, following the departure of Kirstin Ferguson and Donny Walford, who left their positions in November, and Vanessa Guthrie, who resigned in March.
Experienced corporate leader Fiona Balfour, former Seven West Media executive, Mario D’Orazio and former CEO of News Corp and Foxtel,, have all been appointed as non-executive directors and will commence their five-year appointment to the roles immediately.
D’Orazio has extensive experience as a senior executive in Australian media developed over a 30-year career with Channel Seven Perth, including eight years as managing director.
He was also appointed by the Federal Government to the Australia Council Board for three years in 2019.

He also serves as chair of Co3, the Contemporary Dance Company of WA, Chair of the Perth Public Art Foundation, as Director of WA Opera and a board member of the WA Academy of Performing Arts.
Tonagh was most recently head of a philanthropic investment consortium that saved newswire Australian Associated Press (AAP). He is also a non-executive director on the Village Roadshow board.
Tonagh stepped down from the helm of Foxtel in January 2018, after less than two years in the role. His time as CEO of News Corp and Foxtel followed COO roles at both companies (and a stint as CFO at Foxtel). He was also interim CEO of REA Group, and the former vice president and partner of The Boston Consulting Group. He remains chairperson of Bus Stop Films and a member of the Council of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
In 2018, he was co-leader of the government’s efficiency review into the ABC and SBS.
