Ten’s Masterchef had over 1m metro viewers for the first time in the series last night helping the channel to one of its best audience shares for the year according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.
Masterchef was the most watched program from 7.30pm to 9pm and well ahead of competition from Seven and Nine in the absence of their major franchises The Voice and House Rules.
The program was also the most watched show in people 25-54.
Nine’s Top Gear, the first part of the Burma Special, had 583,000 metro viewers in three cities as it was not on in Adelaide and Perth, where the network ran two episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

And Seven’s Border Security had 475,000, but was not on in Melbourne or Adelaide where Home and Away was on for an extended time.
Nine and Seven were neck and neck in the news hour with Nine News just beating Seven from 6pm with 1.154m for Nine News while Seven News had 1.102m and then 1.077m for Nine News 6.30pm as Seven News and Today Tonight had 1.019m from 6.30pm.
After the news hour ABC1 was second in primetime wtih 762,000 for 7.30, 656,000 for The Checkout and 802,000 for Call the Midwife.
Nine was third in the later timeslot with 651,000 for The Footy Show from 8.30pm to 10.30pm, as Seven had 524,000 for Under the Hammer and then 351,000 for new US import Intelligence.
After Masterchef Ten had 581,000 for Law and Order SVU from 9pm.
Ten was third for the night with its audience share of 16.3 per cent just a fraction under Seven’s 16.9 per cent. Nine had the largest share of the audience, 19.9 per cent, and ABC1 was fourth with 14.1 per cent.
