Masterchef wins key demos, as Ten nudges ahead of Seven on Thursday night

Ten’s reality cooking show Masterchef pulled 935,000 metro viewers last night, topping key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Nationally – including metro and regional affiliate stations – Masterchef saw 1.268m tune in compared to Seven’s Home and Away which had 635,000 metro viewers and 1.140m nationally during its 90-minute special.

Last night’s Masterchef episode saw Benita Orwell eliminated after she presented an unsatisfactory prawn broth.

Meanwhile ABC’s current affairs program 7.30 managed 576,000 metro viewers and 832,000 nationally.

Nine secured a win for the evening thanks largely to its news and current affairs offerings, with an average overall audience share of 20.4%, beating Ten’s 17.7% share and Seven’s 15.5%. ABC attracted a 10.6% share ahead of SBS’ 4.6%.

In news, Seven News at 6pm was the most-watched program of the evening as 1.014m tuned in while Nine News attracted 997,000.

At 6.30pm Nine News averaged 990,000 metro viewers beating Seven News/Today Tonight’s 960,000.
