McDonald’s pushes its coffee and customer service credentials in McCafe campaign
Employees at the McDonald’s drive-thru and McCafe will go above and beyond to meet the needs of customers, according to a new campaign.
In a 60-second ad created by DDB, a father continuously drives through the drive-thru to make sure his sleeping baby doesn’t wake up, while staff work frantically to cater to his needs.
In another 30-second spot, McCafe promotes its new coffee blend by showing a barista being complimented on the flat white he just made.
The tagline used at the conclusion of the ads is “McCafe. We’re Coffee people”.
The ads come four months after McDonald’s shifted its PR account back to Mango Communications from incumbent agency Eleven PR.
Jo Feeney, McDonald’s Australia’s director of marketing, said in a statement to Mumbrella: “McDonald’s is a global business, so of course we share great content between markets. This is a great piece of work that perfectly met the brief for this campaign.”
Saw the drive-thru one the other night. Probably the first Maccas ad I haven’t cringed at. Nice work

Love the original US version from 10 years ago (from TBWA was it?) https://youtu.be/OtWRCIkFl00

That’s probably because it is a remake of an ad from the UK.

So the ad created by DDB is actually copied from an ad in US….err….the UK.
If this was the HSC or a uni assignment then DDB would be accused of plagiarising.

@Nick Surely a frame for frame remake had to be sanctioned.

Aside from the obvious plagiarism in this ad, I think there’s a broader issue with local agencies taking local credit for international work…

Maccas staff don’t know how to make you a FLAT white, even if their life depended on it.
They give you a cappuccino & expect you to be dumb enough to not know the difference because it has a lid on.
Take it back, they throw it out (waste) & make you another cappuccino. Grr
They need to go to Barista Training at the BEST Training NSI Ryde Coffee School.

Wow, I absolutely cannot believe how much of a blatant rip off this ad is compared to the one provided in the comments! Everything is pretty much the same, even the thumbs up at the end and the shots of the baby sleeping in the back. The only originality is that the guy is getting a coffee instead and he can now PayWave the payment.

Strategically brave (to repurpose), and well executed. Not every problem needs a new idea. And DDB know it – there’s no credits in the article which means they didn’t PR this.

“Professor McDonald – I did not copy that assignment I repurposed it. I believe it was a strategically brave move.”

Rather than continuely blame the agency there comes a point when you have to question the lack of ambition and total laziness of the client.
Interestingly this is the best thing that has come out of Maccas in a couple of years especially after those awful summer, McJobs and Big Mac ads.

This ad is way too funny. No McDonald’s employee would ever go to that much effort to satisfy or help a customer, my local would most likely tell you to get stuffed.

I think I’m the only person who thought “there’s no way in hell I would serve a customer who was in a moving car”.

This commercial proved to me that McDonalds really does love me. I feel so connected to the company. The care shown by the customer service people was amazing. They really must love their jobs. I wish I knew which McDonalds was in the commercial so I could drive there and drive thru the drive thru. Are the on facebook?

What a bunch of grumpy numpties you all are. It’s just an advertisement, not a political statement, or the 11th Commandment. Get a life and try smiling people – not everyone is a miserable troll.

Who really cares about the ad? The new coffee beans tastes like crap
and are way too mild. My machine at home makes better coffee with beans from the supermarket now. I would go as far as saying, the new coffee at maccas tastes like hungry jacks now!

I had my usual 1/2 strength Latte at McDonalds. Sorry to say, no more Maccas coffee for me, it was even worse than Starbucks. Very disappointed l. I’m sure my comment will not make any difference, as it will depend on the majority of people’s view of the new beans.
Thank goodness there are other coffee shops around.

The “new blend” is truckie coffee. If they think offering to keep making coffee until they get it right will somehow convert customers to the “truckie” blend they are deluded.
Like 99% of customers, I will not complain, I will just go elsewhere.
I suspect that they have been testing this “burnt” coffee for about a year because I stopped buying it in Goondiwindi because it was aweful. My wife refuses to drink it and I have to drink hers as well.

Normally love a McCafe coffee…..but alas no more 🙁
The new coffee beans now taste like a cup of milk. Way way too mild & does not taste like coffee at all.
Bring back real coffee bean flavour to our coffees please Macca’s
