McDonald’s releases ‘Go Full Summer’ campaign
Fast food chain McDonald’s has released its Summer campaign ‘Go Full Summer’ backed to Lovely Day by Bill Withers.
The advertisement features children running on the beach, swimming, playing with seaweed, climbing trees, playing dress ups and eating at McDonald’s.
As described on the brands YouTube channel, the ad aims to promote Summer as a time not appropriate for doing “things half-baked, It’s time to let your hair down and live a little. That’s why this year we’re going full summer and we’re inviting you to come along for the ride.”
The ad comes just months after the fast food brand launched its ‘Everything great starts somewhere’ campaign which aimed to show support to Australian farmers.
Competitor KFC has also recently its Summer campaign which aims to rival the British ‘Barmy Army’ and start a new ‘hole in my bucket’ trend.
KFC has also continued to roll out its ‘Shut up and take my money campaign’.
DDB is McDonald’s creative agency of record.
Love this but would also like to know where the swimming spots are please

I thought the use of kids with open legs and transparent underwear, both boy and girl saddening.

It’s the best add I’ve ever seen for McDonald’s!
Thank you for being real!

I absolutely hate this add. White bread – middle class unrealistic depiction. Good grief – as if looking after half a dozen young children is all fun and laughter. Yeh right!! I hate this type on ingenious and ridiculous advertising campaign. It is all about creating an image. False and misleading. We should all boycott Maccas until they start depicting the reality of life, rather than some sugar- coated crap.

It is nice to see McDonald’s supporting family values and to have a traditional Irish Catholic family featured in a prominent advertising campaign. While contraception is rife in our community, this family has at least 12 children and seems very content.

What a bloody lovely commercial. Beautiful, heart-warming and uplifting. Everything a good Summer spot should be.

Looks like Tony Hughes from “King tide”

Love the ad. Is the family related? They all look alike.

Love the ad what type of car is in the advertisement?

How wonderful to capture family connection in this day of age when people seem to be too busy for homelife. To see parent child connection of fun and laughter kids being kids enjoying the backyard play of tree climbing annoying each other as kids do a trip to the beach then takeaway on the way home makes me smile and bring memories of my childhood ????

what the hell children running around in there underwear and being sneaking around their own mother what are we Australia come on we are better than that we dont like seeing kids half naked on tv

I too love this ad. It is marketing to grandparents who have all had days like this..minus the Maccas…with their own families but the essence of family fun and values is there. Healthy happy kids. The fact that they are all swimming, playing and hugging is wonderful.
You would need to
Look too close for my own personal comfort to see anything inappropriate in this ad.
View it like it is and enjoy!

It’s grand parents looking afterr all their grandchildren. What planet to you live on?

Their underwear.

It is no secret that I have a number of issues with this campaign. 1. The grandfather does not look like a man that should be trusted to look after children 2. I don’t care for long hair on elderly women 3. The old lady sits on the old man’s lap in the restaurant. How do parents encourage appropriate behavior when enjoying a dine in experience if McDonald’s itself presents this scene? 4. The song has indeterminable lyrics 5. I have other commentary that I might choose to share at another time.
User ID not verified.
Geez some people like Dennis have some bigtime serious issues , this add is absolutely the way we do Chrissy with our grandkids each year at Nowra . For days our kids leave their kids with us and we carry on like the old flower power 60s hippies with our grandkids .

It is a shame that Perko has used this forum to “play the man and not the ball”. As I said, I have elected not to publish my full commentary at this time but may choose to if there is sufficient public interest / demand.

I find this ad creepy! Especially the one with the greasy old guy and the little girl!
User ID not verified.
I totally agree, I made a similar comment last week but it didn’t make it onto the page. I’m sure this man is not one, but Dirty Old Man comes to mind every time I hear the music. And the fact that he is laying in a hammock stroking a child’s hair is sickening.
User ID not verified.
I have no problem with this behaviour in the confines of a happy family atmosphere, not on a tv ad amongst strangers, given this current climate of child and sexual abuse
User ID not verified.
The way the grandfather eats the Big Mac sandwich is truly bizarre. He holds it tightly at the front end, causing the contents to spill out at the back. Very foolish. Surely computer technology could be used to correct this?

Usually speed through ads on recorded TV or change the channel – this I actually watch – great feel – clever whoever put this together – I am a grandmother and for once happy to see grandparents portrayed as not all really old and out of touch with fun !!

OMG…I felt uncomfortable watching that chap…something creepy but could not put my finger on it.

YES YES YES

I really like the ad too – very innocent, evocative of an earlier time – expressed by the clothing and style of what we assume to be the grandparents. Great soundtrack too and location!
User ID not verified.
WTF?
It saddens me that those who see something wrong with this advert are truly judging by their own sick standards.
Alternately, even sadder is that the negative comments may be the result of their own similar expereinces, of course for which they are not to blame.
This is a wonderful ad and evokes memories of my own childhood (unsullied by unwanted attention) and I hope that I can share equal experiences with my own grandkids.

Totally disappointing advertisement. Anybody can run a Bill Withers groovy track behind anything and manage to sell it. Keep it real please it is 2017!!

REPLY TO “MARIANNA” – Of course it’s false and misleading – that’s how big companies make sales you box-head!! AND…if you want to boycott Maccas for it, then on principle alone you should be boycotting every other multi-billion dollar company using the same tactics. I hope you know how to grow your own food and make your own clothes and generate your own electricity! Most people have common sense enough to see the adverts for what they really are and then respond according to their own personal needs. That’s a skill you obviously lack in huge quantities. You’re too stupid to listen to!!!
User ID not verified.
Don’t like adds especially when they put it on more than once in a bracket but this ad is the best and most memorable I’ve seen in along time maybe they should have had the grand parents encouraging the kids to pick up their rubish and put it in a bin other than that it may encourage people to spend more time outdoors and be happy and enjoy our kids as now days they are expected to grow up to soon
Curious to know who granny and pop r they look familier the car might be a kings wood station wagon

I’m from the USA and I LOVE this ad! I wish Mc Donalds would play ads like this in the USA, but I think most people would think it’s too liberal in some way. Too bad.

Great Ads – and I’m not a Maccas fan- it does capture us Aussies, which is a refreshing change from the Amercan ads dumped on us with stuck on Aussie voices.
Good on them!

It’s a nice Advert, ligt and fun, but honestly they didnt need to show the girl with her legs wide open…not in in an Advert, it’s just not necessary
McDonald’s shame on you !
No there is nothing wrong with me, and something tells me some of these comments come from Mcdonalds marketing people, or otherwise brainwashed Mcdonalds people ( me included in this lot )
Unlike Bill Gates have done very little to help considering the billions they have made over the years.
That poor boy ad greiving his dead dad, made me sick. This not as bad but why do it ?

Ad creeped me out at first thinking these were older parents being hippies and trying to be cool. Then told myself to believe they were grandparents and grandad had a big head. Anyway all the kids are going to get fat because they eat Maccas.

I like the ad & music. Shows free spirit fun how I grew up in the 70’s.
I know everyone says they’re grandparents, but could be parents. A lot of kids. And an expensive meal for them!
I did bump into a family whilst camping in Albany WA who had 13 kids. This ad reminded me of this family.

I thought I was the only one who found this ad cringeworthy! I think it’s been changed though……Have they edited the terrible table manners (from the oldies) out? I’d crack it if my kids behaved like that out in public!

I love this ad it reminds me of my childhood, my grandparents, great aunts and uncles, cousins and friends all having a fabulous time at the beach, at home, camping and many other activities, the world needs more of these types of activities. They are the grandparents as there is another ad where mum comes in and they hide the treats from her.
User ID not verified.
The family behaves like total pigs at the restaurant. As a young McDonald’s crew member in the mid 90’s, I would have personally ejected these animals and told them to eat in the car park where they belong. I did this a number of times, often to applause from the crowded dining room.
Very disappointing to see McDonalds encourage this.

I love this ad..Makes me look everytime I hear the ad come on..music is just perfect…It Makes me imagine the grandparents are care free hippies from Byron Bay, kids being crazy..And just enjoying the summer.. Great job???

Love the ad….fun fun fun … But who is the old chap in the ad….is it Tony Hughes….its really bugging me…

It’s sad that you think this way. I honestly feel that this is the reason why the world is messed up. Everyone is policing everyone else. I know people need to be cautious but this ad is just about a fun loving family having a good time. But your reaction is obviously about your own paranoia. Maybe you need to lighten up.

Clever ad from Macdonalds. I think it’s aimed at the hippy grandparents who seem to live in Palm Beach. What a pair of roguish groovers they are.

Yep, I noticed it too. Kids running around in their undies. I’m sure paedos watching this ad intently.

Yes, it’s true. I was watching a program on one channel on tv and everytime they show a they maccas commercial and it make me sick watching this old man alone with the girl in his car.

Had to eat McDonalds once at the Central Coast on the way to the beach house. The people in there certainly didn’t look like this ad. They were fat and covered in tattoos.

I spent every summer camping at Coledale Beach near Coalcliff. Those were the days, sun, surf, family and friends. When I saw this ad it really took me back to those innocent, carefree days. I love this ad and the bond it depicts between the kids and grandparents.

I love this add- the song is great and the feeling it evokes of relaxed summer by the beach with the cool grandparents is charming.
It’s the only add that if I’m hearing it playing I come running in from the next room to see it

Good to see lots of predictable comments from the Elite Lefties. Where would we be without you to guide us through our miserable little ignorant existence?
User ID not verified.
Just a thought – is the ad aimed at grandparents because Maccas is losing a big proportion of parents who prefer their children eat healthy food?
Grandparents now the target because they are more likely to spoil their grandchildren.

Garbage ad. Go full summer? as opposed to a half summer

This is a great series of Adverts that remind me of my younger years. The music is perfect and the ad has captured a unique aussie summer. I would like to know who does the Voice over. Filmed at coalcliff NSW? “Bill Withers- Lovely day(Perfect)” Well done to the creators!
I agree Merv and others. Some of the comments are quite disturbing, some of you need some serious help. Grow up.

Ohhhh!!!! This add is perfect all I thought McDonald’s cared about was selling cheap burgers. Now they actually care about the people who buy them. Another thing some people on here I’m reading the comments and laughing my head of.f I think the people with problems watch too much ABC news 24.

It bothers me a bit what some choose to see in this ad. The grandad does not kiss a child on the lips – that is his wife. Honestly some people. The choice of music is perfect. I had to look it up and have added it to my playlist. Not a fan of maccas but their ad agency nailed this one.

I absolutely love this ad.
It is reminiscent of my childhood years spent with family and friends at the beach. No McDonalds was eaten back then but, who hasn’t eaten fish and chips at the beach. Yes and it’s considered junk food.
I hope to make similar memories with my grandchildren.

I think it is sad reflection on society today that people can not see the add for what it is. Grandparents having a wonderfull time with their grandchildren, and grandkids having a wonderful time with their grandparents. Why do we have to read more into it???? Yes it’s a Maccas add,! but it’s about family and our society today, where grandparents play an important part in our children’s lives. purely innocent and nothing more than that. Parents are so busy today with their kids, trying to juggle ‘perfect ‘ parenting, work and family together, this about kids relaxing and having a wonderful time with their grandparents without a care in the world. Just leave it at that.! Honestly!! What has the world come too???

I LOVE this ad, and everything about it reminds me of being a little kid and spending Summer holidays with my parents and Grandparents down at the beach.
So many of my happiest childhood memories are beach holiday with my Grandparents. Admittedly we were usually having picnics, and eating fishing and chips, but I think Maccas have really captured a typical Australian Summer perfectly.

These adds are absolutely crap. They have been on for too long. It’s 2018 not 1966. Wake up
User ID not verified.
Well I do not LOVE the ad but..
My initial interest in this ad was to find out the location of the external shoots because it did look like NZ and I am preparing a dossier on the infiltration of our friends-across-the-ditch’s culture on Australia. Their little-brother-syndrome-generated cockiness and arrogance has no bounds. So Chantal’s question made me read on and respond, and I do not blog (am I even blogging?), but the diatribe that was evident on this site was so intoxicatingly irresistible. Have I “taken the bait”? Oh, Mama! So many issues, and enough material for an entire Psychiatrists’ conference!
“…but may choose to if there is sufficient public interest/ demand” Is that how people express themselves on these sights?
Isn’t the mother of some of the grandchildren shown in one “restaurant” shot also there? Maybe she helped with the expensive food bill, Erika.
Anyway, exactly what SHOULD proper grandparents look like and act like? Queen Victoria and Prince Albert?! People come in all shapes, sizes and dispositions and some, luckily, live to become loving and adored grandparents, whose characters embrace a spectrum of traits, foibles and nuances.
Even those with only a smidgen of marketing interest would concede that nostalgia sells because people feast on it, otherwise Queenslanders would not still believe that they are the underdog in every state of origin series, no matter what the statistics reveal. Come on, you know you do -dad and grand-dad explained it at the dinner table time after time. This ad has it (appeal to feelings of wistful memories) in abundance: hippy- shake dance moves; removal of pickles; crazy (good crazy) Pop who acts the giddy goat with bad table manners( in some cases to show what shouldn’t be done, incidentally), complete with lame, scary joke teeth; acrobatically climbing the door jamb (on which your heights and ages are marked), in your BEDWEAR (because you’re on summer holidays and are up early having fun); evening torchlight walks; valiant stationwagons etc. The marketing brain-storming think tank nailed every one.
I do not love the ad but do love the crazy reactions and debate it has generated.
User ID not verified.
Fully agree. I thought it was just me at first, but the majority of people I asked felt exactly the same. So many poses struck by the children are really inappropriate. The grandad in the car…don’t get me started. Replace the little girl with an adult and the ad could just as easily be a ‘dating for seniors’ commercial. Creepy!

This is a great ad in that it aims to give the impression that Macdonalds supports a fun lifestyle at the beach & rock-pools, day & evening for caring loving families.
I find it interesting though that the closest MacDonalds restaurant to the iconic film location (Coalcliff) is at Woonona & is over 20 minutes by car through several beachside suburbs along a narrow winding road including the Seacliff Bridge. The long trip with several kids packed into a few cars isn’t part of the required image.
Does Macdonalds have many, if any, outlets in small beachside communities?

Not a particular fan of Macca’s but love the ad. It takes me back to the more innocent times of my childhood and makes me wish I had some cool hippy grandparents to hang out with.

I totally agree with Marianna. She is not sad, she is just without blinders!
The idea of the ad is completly a fake and if you all are so naive to say…….ohhh so nice……..ohhh I remember ……You are just lost and it is exactly what McDonalds wants.
In all the world people are fighting against the junk food and boycott Maccas and you????
You are hypnotized by the brainwashing of the advertises. And do not think about what you are eating and what kind of food maccas give you. Like the poor animals raised by ormones and antibiotics, but you are lost in that fake world and you do not notice it.

Exactly Perko. I love the laid back relaxed young at heart grandparents these ads show. Its summer… its holiday time …. its Australia!! …. All the cousins running amuck at nan and pops house woohooo the memories

OMG … its a grandfather and his grandchild! Why do some people have to see “sick” in everything? This ad is great how it depicts a happy extended family enjoying their summer holidays. Does every man over the age of 50 look like a “Dirty Old Man” to you? Happy thoughts please, its entirely innocent!

So grandfathers everywhere aren’t allowed to take their granddaughters out alone? What is the world coming too! You are the sick one for having those sick thoughts. All I see is Grandpa and his grandchild enjoying a trip to Maccas.

No, you have serious issues. Grandpa looks like an older hip guy, probably was a teenager in the 60s. What is wrong with that? And grandma is probably at the beach looking after the rest of the tribe, do you want them to leave the kids at the beach alone?

And you blame 5-6 years of eating at maccas for this? I call it getting older and probably more likely to do with genetics.

Whether the ad is appropriate or not – the fact remains that we are all part of a society where our most vulnerable members are quite often at risk [whether we are aware of it or not].
The communities reaction to ads like this simply reflects this sad reality.

It’s one of the better Macca ads I’ve seen in a while. Just a bunch of kids hanging out with the grandies and going to Maccas for sustenance. It is what it is. A fun ad about a fun family group.

Dennis, if it’s indeed true that this where you chose to find some sort validation via public demand/interest then already I feel incredibly embarrassed and ashamed for now taking part. However, to say that i find your comments truly heinous and sadly nothing short of pathetic would be a gross understatement. I sincerely hope you are living your life to the fullest… or at the very least consciously getting out of the way of those that are attempting to do so. This is the first and will be the last time I choose to participate in a forum like this… so I’ll finish with… I hope you find something more constructive to do with your time… and if you can’t… then maybe you should just remain silent… something tells me you already know that.
