Media agency veteran Jonathan Chadwick returns as CEO of Carat APAC

Former CEO of GroupM’s Maxus, Jonathan Chadwick, has returned to the media agency landscape, with Dentsu Aegis Network announcing he will become Asia Pacific CEO of Carat.

Chadwick has worked in roles across Australia and around the world, eventually becoming CEO of Maxus in 2012. He left the agency in November 2015, instead becoming chief strategy officer of holding group GroupM, with Mark McCraith taking the helm at Maxus. Just over a year later, he left the WPP-owned group to pursue consulting, developing and investing.

Chadwick: Back working agency side

Chadwick’s appointment is effective from July, and comes after Sean O’Brien moved across to be CEO of the group’s lifestyle and experiential marketing agency MKTG and out-of-home operator Posterscope.

O’Brien will now become chairman of Dentsu Aegis Network Media, overseeing MKTG and Posterscope, as well as agencies Carat, Vizeum and Dentsu X.

Nick Waters, CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network Asia Pacific said Chadwick – who has managed relationships with Unilever and Nike – was a great fit for the group.

“He has an exceptional range of experience in the media business and has a strong focus on client service, product quality and team culture. He is a wonderful fit for Carat, which is the world’s leading media agency, and consistently recognised by RECMA as the highest-quality agency in the Asia Pacific,” Waters said.

He said O’Brien’s new position will help Dentsu Aegis Network manage its portfolio of agencies in a “streamlined and efficient manner”.

“Each of the agency leaders is responsible for managing their business, clients and people, but will work to a single collective agenda under Sean’s direction, increasing synergies and effectiveness.”
