Media Monitors buys social media monitoring platform Brandtology
Media Monitors has bought a majority investment in social media monitoring service Brandtology, the company has announced.
Media Monitors CEO John Croll said – “This is Media Monitors first acquisition since being acquired by Quadrant on 1 July 2010 and it reaffirms our growth strategy.
“Brandtology’s business model reflects Media Monitors focus on accuracy, timeliness and deeper insight – all rare commodities in the current world of social media monitoring and analysis. We believe it’s a great step forward for these two strong brands with a consistent focus on quality and client service to grow together as part of the Media Monitors Group.”
Brandtology will remain as a separate brand within the Media Monitors Group.
Writing on his company blog, Croll said of social media: “These platforms are neither fringe nor niche – they are already a huge and growing part of the public conversation. ”
The announcement was also accompanied by a video explaining the thinking behind the deal:
Too late, too slow, too old.
Im sure they’ll be overcharging just like they do for their other services.
Plenty of free options out there that do a much better job.

Great to see big companies really starting to care about this! Exciting times for our industry 🙂
@Sarah, re; socialmention.com, no ‘real-time’ qualitative social media analysis is worth the name. If it’s automated, it’s crap.
Well it’s about time Media Monitors got their heads out of the sand! Brandtology has the same business model as Dialogix (www.dialogix.com.au) but without the focus on Australian data. I’ll be interested to see what they’re charging.
Yes, Sanjay – Brandtology employs professionals who work from home in the Philippines to provide local language support. I’m one of them, in fact. Having people work from home is never a hindrance to Brandtology’s commitment to relevance, coverage, speed, accuracy of analysis and adaptability. For example, I personally am a book author, had presented papers in national and international conferences, a professor in Communication for over ten years, and on my way to getting a Ph. D. degree — and on top of it all, I’m proud to be part of Brandtology!
@Sanjay: Why would you need an office to analyse online media? Surely an internet connection will suffice. Evidently you feel that there are no educated and competent professionals to be found in the Philippines. Isn’t that somewhere in the neighbourhood of a rather odious racial slur?
Damn. I ran out of Buzzword Bingo cards half way through!
socialmedianalysis.com gave the acquisition a score of 2 out of 10.

@pete, you made it racial. not anyone else.
@Alice errrm, I think you’ll find that’s just a list of what acquisitions have happened when, not a score…so 2/11 (not 10) is the date, feb 2011. Maybe its not the internet scrambling people’s brains after all…
