Melbourne radio ratings: Gold FM rises while 3AW and ABC both fall
Classic Hits FM station Gold 104.3 was the biggest winner in the Melbourne radio ratings securing a 1.9 share point rise in Monday to Friday share in the second Nielsen survey of 2013.
ARN’s Gold FM growth in audience was driven by a surge in audience across its breakfast, morning and afternoon programs which rose 1.6 per cent, 2.2 per cent and 2.8 share points respectively.
On Monday to Friday share, the station is just behind Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM which is on 9.4 per cent. On Monday to Sunday share, it also closed the gap.
Talkback stations 3AW and ABC 774 both saw falls in audience of 1.1 and 0.8 points each overall on the Monday to Friday numbers.
Neil Mitchell’s 3AW morning program has fallen behind the ABC’s Jon Faine after a substantial fall in audience shedding 2.3 per cent points between the hours of 9am and 12pm. Faine had an audience share of 13.2 per cent compared with 12.9 per cent for Mitchell for the Morning survey slot.
3AW’s Drive show also continues to shed audience in the wake of the departure of broadcaster Derryn Hinch. The latest Nielsen numbers show the Drive slot down 0.5 share points to 10.1 compared with 12.7 percent last year in the final survey under Hinch.
Meanwhile in the breakfast radio market there was a small fall for the market leaders with 3AW’s Ross & John pulling in an 17.2% share, down 1 per cent, while the top commercial team is Fox FM’s Matt & Jo were 8.5 down 0.4 per centage points.
I thought the real story here would be Triple M’s Hot Breakfast program posting its best ever result in the 3 and a half years it has been on air.

I am so please to hear that drive on 3aw with Tom Elliott has slipped. Mr.Healy
should never have sacked Derryn. Everyday at 3.00pm I now change stations. I am
also so sorry to have Denis Walters show shortened by an hour.
