MercerBell promotes Julie Dormand to CEO as Nick Mercer takes chairman role

Customer experience agency MercerBell Australia has promoted its managing director Julie Dormand to CEO, as founding partner Nick Mercer takes a role as the agency’s chairman.

Dormand initially joined MercerBell in 2001 as an account director, and after a series of promotions, became general manager in 2010. She was elevated to managing director in 2012.

In her new role, Dormand will report into Michael Rebelo, CEO of Publicis Communications Australia and New Zealand.

Mercer paid tribute to Dormand’s efforts and achievements thus far.

“The culture of MercerBell is a wonderful reflection of the ways Julie has helped build a business based on strong values of fairness, egalitarianism and respect. A long-time supporter of women in leadership, she is a part of Publicis Groupe’s Viva Women,” he said.

Dormand said the agency had gone from strength to strength since being acquired by the Publicis Groupe.

“MercerBell was already working with Publicis Communications clients and to begin with had a unique positioning in the Australian market as the customer experience agency. We’ve only gone from strength to strength after being acquired by the Publicis Groupe,” Dormand said in a statement.

Rebelo echoed Dormand’s sentiment, and said the MercerBell acquisition in 2016 has been a strong success.

“We have seen the market change dramatically over these past three years, substantiating our initial theory that clients are looking for partners that can solve and advise across a wider brand and customer experience remit. Our clients have benefited and we’ve grown significantly as a result,” he said.

Mercer has also been appointed country leader for Publicis Data Spine, for which he will report into CEO of Publicis Media, Matt James. In his capacity as MercerBell chairman, he will report to Rebelo.
