Michelle Hutton to depart Edelman

Sydney-based Edelman leader Michelle Hutton is set to depart the agency this month after more than 13 years.

Hutton, currently the vice chair of Asia Pacific, said in a LinkedIn post last night: “People say that courage is the root of change. I’m going to get started on what that could mean for me and what’s next because this industry embraces change and that’s what I plan to do too.

“A very big and heartfelt thank you to the countless and wonderful colleagues, leaders and mentors around the world that I’ve had the privilege to work with at Edelman.

“It’s been an honour to learn from you all and I will always be your biggest cheerleader.”

Edelman Australia confirmed the move. A spokesperson for the company said: “We’d like to thank her for her 13 years of service to our clients and her significant contributions to the firm. We wish her the best in all her future endeavours.”

Hutton first joined Edelman as its national CEO in Australia in 2010, after spending nearly 20 years at its rival, Hill+Knowlton.

During her tenure at Edelman, she has held various local and international leadership roles, including as the global chair of consumer marketing practices and managing director of global clients in London.

She returned to Australia as national CEO again in 2019 as her predecessor, Steve Spurr, took a sabbatical.

Her latest move upward to become the vice chair of Asia Pacific at Edelman saw MediaCom’s (now EssenceMediacom) Tom Robinson come in as Edelman Australia’s new CEO in 2022.

Mumbrella contacted Hutton, who did not add further comments.
