Mills&Co makes second hire following initial launch growth

Independent consultancy Mills&Co, led by former Monks growth director Jonathan Mills, has announced its second hire less than six months after launching.

Jon Gourley has been named as the consultancy’s new business development manager, where he will help shape its dedicated new business offering.

He joins from UK-based Encore Digital Media, where he spent over three years building and maintaining client relationships to maximise ad revenue. Prior to that, he held business development roles at tech companies Engage Tech and Panorays.

Mills, a former director of growth at S4 Capital’s Monks and CX Lavender, launched Mills&Co in February. He said the consultancy has seen an initial period of rapid growth, having already secured six retained clients.

It is designed to act as an extension of a company’s team, by providing clients with a new business team across B2B strategy, sales, communications, and events. Through its “integrated and always on” approach, it aims to drive profile, pipeline, and revenue growth for Australian agencies and technology companies.

The approach works over two phases, according to Mills, where it firstly gets clients “match fit” before kicking off a quarterly cycle of content, events, PR, and tailored “lead generation” programmes, which identify new business opportunities.

Gourley said similar companies are common in the UK, and he’s been privy to the “positive impact this joined up approach to new business can have”.

“It’s great to see Mills&Co offering a service for Australian and APAC clients that will help them create opportunities to win new business at a time when the industry is more competitive than ever,” he said. “I’m looking forward to helping Mills&Co’s clients achieve their new business goals.”

Mills said Gourley will play a “significant role” in the new business success of Mills&Co’s clients.

“Jon brings with him three years of experience driving growth for a digital media and programmatic agency in the UK. He really understands the process and the hard yards it takes to win new clients,” he said.

“He will be a great asset to our clients.”

Mills also teased that Gourley is the “second of several hires to come”.

The consultancy’s first hire, Jessica Ray, started in April as business development executive. She joined from independent winemaker Naked Wines.
