Mindshare hires Joe Lunn as chief strategy officer

Joe Lunn Profile Photo[2]GroupM media agency Mindshare has announced it has hired Joe Lunn as it is chief strategy officer.

Lunn returns to Australia after five and a half years in France, where he was most recently head of strategy and insight for ZenithOptimedia France.

Mindshare CEO Kate Rigg-Smith said the appointment was significant for the agency: “we are incredibly excited to have someone of Joe’s calibre joining us here in Australia and look forward to him driving our product and strategic thinking to the next level.”

This is first time Mindshare has had a chief strategy officer since Rigg-Smith herself stepped up from the role to be CEO in April 2013.

The appointment also comes as the media agency goes on alert to defend once of its biggest clients Unilever, which last week announced a global media pitch which will likely see the agency face-off against Initiative and PHD for the $57m Australian media account.

Lunn’s previous experience includes helping setting up Zenith International France, a global strategy, digital and coordination team responsible for four of the network’s key global clients, while in the UK he helped build the O2 brand.

He began his career in Australia, working as an analyst with the Federal Government, before spending five years at Saatchi & Saatchi, where he created a full-service digital media offering, eventually heading up strategy for the wider agency.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Katie and the team at Mindshare Australia. Mindshare is an agency with an incredibly strong heritage in strategic leadership,” he said in a statement.

Lunn will report in to Rigg-Smith.
