Dr Mumbo

So how much did Arnie get paid for those REA ads?

It’s one of the big questions almost everyone asked when they saw Realestate.com.au had landed Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger for its latest campaign – how much did that cost?

Well this morning adland veteran, and creative head of BWM the agency which made the ads, Rob Belgiovane was on Channel Ten’s morning show Studio Ten talking about his three favourite ads from the last year.

One of them was the below Lenovo spot starring Ashton Kutcher. Afterwards one of the panel asked him “how much do these major stars get paid for that?” to which Belgo replied for the real A listers it was “at least a million bucks a day”.

Referring back to working with Julia Louis-Dreyfus who at the time was at the height of her Seinfeld fame (Dr Mumbo presumes on the below Smiths ad), Belgo said she was getting “$600,000 plus back then, and that was a long time ago”.

He added: “You get them from 8am to 5.30pm on the dot. And I mean on the dot. Having said that they are really good, they get on set and they know what they’re doing. They get stuck in and really focus.”

When Joe Hilderbrand happened to mention Arnie and the REA ads Belgo added “That’s really been very successful, who’s ever heard of the competitors now?” before adding with a laugh “I’m joking of course”.

So presuming Arnie is still considered A-list material he’ll have been on a nice little earner from this ongoing campaign.

In case you’re interested the other top two ads Belgo picked from the last year were:
