Mumbrella CommsCon conference and awards return: Foxtel, Howatson+Co, Edelman, Pure PR and Chris Savage to speak

Industry leaders from Foxtel, Howatson + Company, Edelman, Pure Public Relations and The Savage Company are confirmed to speak at Mumbrella CommsCon 2023 when it returns on 11 May in Sydney. It will be followed by the Mumbrella CommsCon Awards, featuring two new categories.

Savage

In sessions already confirmed, The Savage Company’s Chris Savage – former CEO of Ogilvy PR Australia as well as former COO of STW Group – will reveal how delegates can keep at the edge of their PR careers for longer.

In a presentation unashamedly all about the delegate, Savage will share how to ensure you are working on yourself as a PR leader and delivering the best of you today and tomorrow.

Savage will deliver critical tools, tips and tactics to quickly evolve and sharpen a PR business and its competitiveness to make sure it is ‘future-fit’ as change accelerates. He will also give 10 powerful leadership lessons from the frontline, including vital learnings on how to keep delivering maximum value.

A key panel is also confirmed addressing the new PR talent market. Not just hiring outside the box, but leveraging fresh talent and thinking for better business outcomes.

Abbott

Foxtel’s executive director of group communications, Jacqui Abbott, will join Howatson + Company’s head of PR, Ben Handberg and Edelman’s head of talent engagement, Lynnette Edmonds to discuss the current environment. All three have made a number of hires outside of the traditional PR sphere and will share the learnings from the experiences.

And in a special presentation, Pure Public Relations founder Phoebe Netto will share how the agency helped change regulation with its work for the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Netto

Previously, practitioners who were not registered as surgeons were carrying out procedures under misleading titles, such as ‘cosmetic surgeon’, to allow them to broaden their services.

In the session, Netto will share how the agency, on a small retainer, managed to put together and execute a significant media relations-led strategy. It resulted in coverage across major news alongside a substantial investigation in key main media. In the end it led to regulation reform.

More sessions will be confirmed next year with earlybird tickets on sale now. Mumbrella CommsCon takes place on 11 May at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney.

Mumbrella CommsCon Awards launch

Meanwhile, the Mumbrella CommsCon Awards have launched with two new categories added.

Joining last year’s 23 categories will be Best Non-traditional Business Opportunity as well as Best Media-relations Led Campaign. Both reflect a large amount of feedback from the industry requesting awards around these areas.

The first entry deadline for the Mumbrella CommsCon Awards is 17 February while a final deadline of 24 February is accessible at an additional cost.

Shortlisted entrants will be announced on 21 March.
