Mumbrella to celebrate 10th anniversary with Next Awards recognising next generation of talent
Mumbrella will celebrate its 10th anniversary in December with the Mumbrella Next Awards – celebrating those whose careers in the industry began since the site launched.
The Mumbrella Next Awards will recognise the best new talent across the whole communications industry. The awards are open to anybody who joined the industry since December 9, 2008.
The awards are open to anyone with 10 years or less experience since their first paid professional position, no matter their age. There are 10 categories available to enter including PR, creative, commercial, content and more. The aim is that every Mumbrella reader with less than 10 years experience who works in the industry would be eligible to enter one of the categories.
Some of the industry’s most senior leaders will be invited to take place in judging the Mumbrella Next Awards.
Entry is now open, with the first entry deadline set for October 12. To enter and download the criteria, click here. The award winners will be announced at a cocktail function on the evening of Thursday December 6 in Sydney as part of a wider celebration of Mumbrella’s anniversary.
hmmmm….
sounds a lot like B&Ts 30 under 30 awards which have been reasonably successful over the years
guess that event is fair game for Mumbrella which has the better brand by a fairly large margin, and its clearly a business model these days for some media groups
B&Ts major source of income and profit nowadays is awards – B&T Awards, 30 under 30, Women in Media, Women in Travel and so on.
makes you wonder even more about the whole awards thing though and what value they really brings to this market
If Ad News starts a version of 30 under 30 (they may already have a version) what is the currency of winning these awards in the end?
And how much time ,effort and money is spent in the industry trying to win them?

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the comment, and indeed for the kinds words about our brand.
I’m familiar with 30 Under 30. If you are indeed the Jeremy I’m thinking of, then of course you and I both worked on them in our days at B&T.
You’d perhaps also be familiar with the Young Achiever category of the Mumbrella Awards, which we’ve run for a number of years. It’s always been a frustration that we don’t get to showcase more of the talent put forward in this always-competitive category, given the large number of entries we generally receive in this category.
One key difference is that this process is not age-limited. It’s about time in the industry. People of any age are welcome to enter, so long as they’ve been in this industry for less than 10 years.
But to your wider point about bringing value: The challenge for us – as with other awards we run – is in running a fair and transparent process that recognises those that truly deserve to be recognised. You’d make an excellent juror, by the way.
Plus on this occasion, it also gives us the opportunity to celebrate our birthday with some of the best and brightest in the industry.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella

Jeremy Knibbs as a juror I’ve heard it all now

Thanks for flagging that, Jon.
I can see the same glitch too. Please bear with us. We’re looking at it now.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
I had to hold back so, so, so, much when muppets were posting a link on Facebook and Linkedin to their BandT under 30 profile to receive votes. (Ultimately, unless I have this incorrect, to be a finalist on the bandt one, you simply need to enter and then get your friends and fam to vote (nothing to do with being truly ranked by peers or clients)? Then these oxygen thieves have the audacity (lack of EQ?) to shout out how they were proud of being a finalist / runner up…??? Empty vessels make the most noise and all that?
If Mumbrella can do this without asking people to enter and more asking people, within the industry to recommend people to be picked, that would be great. Heck, we may even get some ‘finalists’ who are actually humble and say that they do not want to a receive an award. Imagine! A real awards.

Hi when I watch ads (and I only watch ads on Mumbrella…) I think what would my kids think of this as they eat Vegemite. Overall it seems like an ‘old’ Australia representation with some token diversity thrown in not the progressive inclusive Australia I’d like my children to know. I’ll ask them tonight and report back.
