Network 10 presenter and Wallabies legend reportedly sacked
Popular Network 10 presenter and Wallabies legend Matt Burke has reportedly been sacked after over a decade with the broadcaster.
Reports emerged over the weekend that Burke, who joined 10 in 2013, was sacked as a result of cost cutting.
In a statement given to Mumbrella, a Network 10 spokesperson confirmed that Burke will wrap up at the end of the year, but did not respond to questions about the reasons behind the decision.
“Matt is one of the most versatile and experienced sports presenters on Australian television and his passion and enthusiasm for sports, but particularly Rugby is remarkable,” the spokesperson said.
“His infectious love of sport, great sense of humour and optimism will be missed in the newsroom.
“Matt leaves Network 10 with our sincere thanks and warmest wishes for the future.”
Burke first joined 10 in 2013 as an expert commentator for the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia and soon after was made a permanent sports presenter for 10 News First Sydney.
He is yet to publicly address his departure.

That’s what happens when the accountants make the decisions based on the bottom line.
And most viewers know that when the on-screen talent is removed, that the broadcast quality is degraded, and therefore the audience reduces. Of course the pen-pushers will look around for the next victim. And, the bosses wonder why the ratings drop.

This is why free to air television is in decline. Accountants who know nothing about television and entertainment run repeats all day because it’s a cheaper alternative to good innovative programming. If there is no entertainment, there are no viewers, when there are no viewers there is no advertising revenue, which then becomes a very expensive outcome for the television networks. It becomes more expensive not to provide good entertainment. Hello?

Cost cutting is part of business and always will be.
Sorry to see Matt go but it’s not like he won’t pick up another job that pays well into the 6 figures.
