News Corp celebrates 1 Degree’s 10th Birthday in new campaign

News Corp has launched a campaign for its environmental sustainably project, 1 Degree, which includes pop up shops, expos, activities, workshops and keynote presentations throughout Sydney.

The campaign, which launched to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, also included a showcase of BMW’s i8 electric sports cars.

The 1 Degree campaign also encouraged staff members of News Corp to write in with something they could do in 10 minutes, which would contribute to a big change for the environment.

The person who comes up with the best idea, will receive a $1,000 Qantas travel voucher and Gold Status Frequent Flyer upgrade.

10,000 copies of the 10th anniversary newspaper were distributed nationally, including the achievements of the paper so far.

Michael Miller, executive chairman of News Corp Australia, said in a statement: “Our sustainable paper and printing program is a recycling success story. We have achieved Zero Waste at all major print centres around the country. That is over 98% diversion from landfill.

“I’m extremely proud of everything we’ve achieved in the last 10 years with 1 Degree. Our environmental credentials are an important part of our company’s DNA. It’s critical to who we are and what we stand for,” he said.

Tony Wilkins, News Corp Australia’s head of environment, said: “A significant part of 1 Degree is our engagement program with partners, suppliers and the community to advance environmental outcomes beyond News Corp Australia.

“The success of 1 Degree’s philosophy remains true today, and is evident in the many and varied steps we have taken individually and collectively to help News Corp Australia achieve outstanding results over the past 10 years.”
